MANAGING ECZEMA
If you struggle with eczema, psoriasis, dry or flaky skin, rosacea, or sensitivity, it’s a sign your skin’s barrier might be compromised. You might have noticed that ordinary moisturisers don’t seem to help—and in some cases, they can even sting. Most sensitive skin products on the shelves in Australia contain petrolatum and mineral oil (also known as paraffin oil), which work by sealing moisture into the skin to support the barrier. However, these ingredients are by-products of crude oil, making them inexpensive and widely used. However they are also a target for criticism from environmental advocates due to sustainability concerns. The good news is, there are natural, plant-based alternatives that act as excellent emollients, helping to restore your skin barrier and offering a host of natural healing properties.
Hemp seed oil is rich in Omega 3 and 6, providing strong anti-inflammatory benefits. It relieves itching, reduces redness, and helps skin heal, with a light non-greasy feel compared to petrolatum, which can be uncomfortable and may cause acne. Beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil, and avocado oil are effective emollients for locking in moisture and supporting healing. These oils also offer antimicrobial and antibacterial protection against secondary infections.
